What should a new-concrete estimate include?

Describe the intended use

Record approximate dimensions, the intended use and adjoining surfaces from safe locations. Explain whether the request is for a driveway, patio, path or another residential installation. Distinguish these observations from the final design and takeoff: the responsible professional must assess the property and determine specifications. A square-foot price cannot establish what your project requires.

Ask what preparation covers

Request the proposed demolition, excavation, disposal and base preparation in writing. Ask how equipment and concrete reach the work area and who restores disturbed landscaping or access routes. Identify unknown conditions and how they are handled if discovered. Two quotes can cover different preparation work even when the visible slab dimensions appear similar.

Compare the specified installation

Ask the provider to identify the proposed concrete, thickness, reinforcement, joints and finish for the intended use. This guide does not prescribe those choices. Discuss drainage and connections to existing surfaces as part of the assessment. Keep allowances and exclusions visible so the final work can be compared with the agreement.

Understand changes and the handover

Ask how additional work is priced, documented and authorized. Review payment terms and the proposed project stages, including protection and reopening instructions. Confirm permit responsibility with the provider and applicable authority rather than assuming an exemption. Keep the signed scope and changes; the referral website cannot set a price, assess the property or guarantee availability.

Prepare the relevant installation assessment.

Prepare the address, intended residential use, approximate dimensions and access details. Ask about assessment charges and availability before arranging a visit.
